About Jonathan Waller

In 2009 I was diagnosed with Scoliosis & Kyphosis of the Spine. This is an abnormal curvature of the spine, which can cause visual deformity along with severe pain and discomfort.

At the time i was 20 years old, I’d been in pain for as long as I could remember and I struggled to get out of bed and handle everyday life. I was taking prescribed medication and shop purchased medication together to help numb the pain and discomfort so I could live some sort of normal life.

Not long after being diagnosed I went to an NHS Physiotherapy department and given exercises to do. These exercises did not help and made things worse than they already were. This is when I gave up and succumbed to the fact that nothing could be done to help me.

A few years later I was introduced to a Paul Allison of St Jude’s Chiropractic, I was very sceptical at the time, but I persevered with it and at first I visited every week, slowly working my way up to 18 Week intervals to this day.

After a while of going to see Paul, I was introduced to Chloe Greenwood, an amazing Sports Therapist who unfortunately now only works on animals. Again I visited her every week moving upto tri weekly sessions.

The combination of a Chiropractor and Sports Therapist helped me live a better life than I had previous. They both also convinced me (it took a while) to visit a Pilates Studio and give a class a go, this in turn took me to a Local Studio called Cat&Cow Studio run by Jane Douglas, a BASI trained teacher.

This is where life really took a drastic turn and I realised how powerful a tool Pilates can be when used correctly. I become more active, happier, confident and enjoyed life a lot more. I have been doing Pilates for nearly 4 years now and find that I couldn’t live without my weekly classes and nightly routine.

In 2018 I was approached by my teacher (Jane) and asked if id like to go on a teacher training course with BASI Pilates UK. I jumped at the chance to do this, not because I wanted to teach, but because I wanted to understand my body and help myself. Now I don’t just see it as a tool to help myself but also a tool to help others in a similar situation as myself.
